Scheduling and Procurement Planning

Short-Term Load Forecasting

CMPAS uses a neural network forecasting tool, the software forecasts the hourly load to schedule in the MISO Energy market each day. In compliance with MISO requirements, CMPAS submits a seven-day hourly load forecast.

Resource Planning

CMPAS conducts comprehensive planning studies for each utility. CMPAS dives deep into power economics to determine how a local utility should use its legacy assets, conduct system upgrades, and add new resources. The end product of this process for utilities is a rigorous, customized analysis that provides more information and insight into their systems and power portfolio than they could gather on their own.

Procurement

CMPAS delivers competitive and diversified power contracts that bring price stability, supplies local demands, and optimizes each utility’s existing resource mix. CMPAS designs and maintains a generation portfolio that mitigates risks and manages around turbulence in the market.

Long-Term Energy and Peak Forecasting

CMPAS forecast consists of independent forecasts for its eleven members and two affiliate cities. The forecast projects long-term energy and peak demand from 2023 through 2024 for the primary purpose of fulfilling the MISO Model E requirements. The forecast includes energy, non-coincident peaks (NCP), MISO system coincident peaks (MCP). and Load Resource Zone coincident peaks (LCP).

Power Market Forecasting

CMPAS has forecasts for many items relevant to purchasing long-term power supply contracts. Our methods do not rely on “one big model”. Instead, CMPAS helps our members understand how changing markets mean new ways of thinking about power supply decisions.
